It is with great sadness that we have to announce that
Raoul Bott passed away December 20, 2005.
A memorial service is now set for Sunday, January 29 at 1:30
in the Memorial Church at Harvard. "Raoul Bott (1923-2005), a native of Hungary, studied engineering at McGill University in Montreal, then received his Ph.D. in science from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. He joined Harvards faculty in 1959. He has taught at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, N.J., the University of Michigan, and the Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques (IHES) in France. Bott won the Wolf Prize in Mathematics 2000. According to the Wolf Foundation prize committee, Bott was selected for "his many fundamental contributions in topology and differential geometry and their application to Lie groups, differential operators and mathematical physics."
