What are the qualities of an expert teacher? Important attributes are defined and illustrated. The following six ideas are explored in depth. An expert teacher:
  • identifies key ideas and presents them in several ways, and highlights connections among key ideas;
  • makes careful plans, but remains flexible;
  • listens to students and asks questions to help them make sense of their own understanding of key ideas;
  • provides "low threshold-high ceiling" problems ;
  • helps students think for themselves;
  • and never stops learning.
