xfig is an X-windows based MacDraw-like program which can be used to create figures of
various types, to be included in documents or printed out
separately. This section will not deal with the details of the actual
figure creation -- read the online documentation for
fig. Rather, it will concentrate on the
problem of converting the output of fig into something useful.
There are three basic possibilities, each with advantages and
disadvantages. The first is to produce output compatible with the
picture
environment, the
second is to produce output for the extended
picture
environment called eepic
, and the
third is to produce a PostScript file that can be printed directly by
the laser printer or included in a file using the
\
psfig
command.
