"Making sense of your math placement score"
Discussion session on Monday August 30, 2010 from 9:30-10AM in Science Center B.
Should I take Math 19,20,21,23,25,55:
Meeting and discussion on Monday, August 30th from 2:30-5:00 PM, Science Center D.
All questions will be answered and all concerns addressed.
Sectioning: After the introductory meetings
(see the schedule below), calculus is taught entirely in sections. To enroll in
Math Ma,Math 1a, Math 1b, Math 21a, Math 21b, you
must section by computer during the period starting Monday,
August 30, and no later than 12:00 pm (noon) on Thursday, September 2rd.
Note that you can re-section as often as you
like during this time and your previous entry will be erased.

Directions for sectioning by computer:
From a Windows computer, open the SecureCRT application
[Download from FAS].
Use the "Quickconnect" menu to open a connection with protocol
ssh2, hostname: ulam.fas.harvard.edu and username: section

From a Macintosh with OS X start the "Terminal" application located under Applications/Utilities.
At the shell prompt, type
"ssh section@ulam.fas.harvard.edu" and type return.

Using any Linux or Unix computer, login into your FAS account.

Advising for 23-55:
Students who need advice about Math 23-55 should go to the 'Should I
take Math 19, 20, 21, 23, 25, 55' meeting on Monday, August 30 from
2:30-5:00 pm in Science Center D. Those who need advice subsequent to
this meeting should contact Professor Peter Kronheimer
(kronheim@harvard.edu), whose office hours are
Monday, 8/30 2:30-4:30 pm, Tuesday, 8/31 2:30-3:30 pm,
Friday, 9/3 2:30-3:30 pm, Tuesday, 9/7 3-4 pm.
Note that advising is not done via telephone, so please use
these scheduled advising times, or contact Professor Kronheimer via email.
Professor Paul Bamberg will be holding open office hours in
Room 322 of the Science Center from 1-2:30 on Tuesday 8/31
to answer questions about Math 23a,b.
Upper level math courses
Freshmen who wish to take math courses labeled 102 or greater should
speak with Professor Peter Kronheimer first. His advising office
hours and his email address is given in the previous entry.
